AS SEEN IN

It's been a hectic year for us all at Nutscene – and nothing gets more hectic than the week leading up to the reknowned RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Leaving Forfar for London with our van packed to the gunnels, stapped with Nutscene Twine and Wilbert's Potting Shed, the excitement starts to build. Arriving in the heart of Chelsea, the buzz of the flower show is omnipresent, and our team quickly become revived - soaking in the frantic energy of the show gardeners, who are so focussed on what is for some their life's work - their heart and soul laid out on a 10m x 10m plot.

Despite the logistical challenges and the heavy work of setting up, being at the Chelsea Flower Show is indeed rewarding. The RHS judges compounded for us this year what we already felt, (that our stand was indeed stunning!) and had worked very hard to achieve over 3 years of attendance. A 'Certificate of Merit' was awarded to Nutscene Ltd for the Outstanding Presentation of Their Stand'

And just look at our 2010 presentation.........

Everyone’s Nuts About Nutscene!

Issued: 23 May 2008

Tucked away behind the Angus village of Kingsmuir is one of the most innovative companies in the county: Nutscene Ltd.

"Nutscene is a brand with a great history – and a great future," reveals Shona Young, Managing Director and owner of Nutscene Ltd.

Nutscene has been producing garden twine since 1912 and since Shona, who was previously Office Manager, bought the company in 2004, it's gone from strength to strength. Nutscene's range of twine and gardening accessories can now be bought all over the United Kingdom and the company also exports to Scandinavia, Europe, the USA – and the Bahamas!

"Although we now produce a range of gardening products, twine is still the mainstay of Nutscene's business," says Shona. "And, by packaging it in a range of different ways and supplying it in the most gorgeous colours, we've made twine an exciting, sexy product!"

During a visit to the custom-built Nutscene factory in Kingsmuir, Provost Ruth Leslie Melville was very impressed. "It's great to see such enthusiasm, determination and originality," said the Provost. "Nutscene sums up so many of the fantastic small businesses all over Angus and it's wonderful to hear of the company's achievements."

Shona informed the Provost that Nutscene recently acquired two companies, The Domestic Paraphernalia Company, which supplies traditional clothes pulleys, and The Red Clay Garden, which manufactures terracotta garden products. "Each of our companies is successful in their own right but together, they will be an even greater success," said Shona.

While taking the Provost on a tour of the factory, Shona revealed that times have not always been so rosy for Nutscene. "I feel proud of what we've achieved but it's been hard work," said Shona, whose company was one of the Business Category finalists in the 2007 Angus Ambassador Awards.

"One of our strengths is that we lead and other people follow – but that's not always a good thing. If we develop a product, it has a shelf life of maybe three years before it's copied but, by that time, we'll have moved onto our next new product."

"We'll soon be launching Nutscene Direct, which will enable customers to order our products via the Nutscene Direct website," says Shona, who gave the Provost a sneak preview of the latest (top secret!) Nutscene invention, which should be on sale by Christmas.

"It's simple, effective ideas like this that will keep Nutscene at the forefront of the gardening marketplace," said the Provost. "Nutscene is a wonderful ambassador for Angus."

CHELSEA FLOWER SHOW 2008

We certainly caused a stir at the Chelsea Flower Show this year.   Awarded   a   'Certificate of Commmendation'   (given   to exhibits staged to exceptionally high standards of presentation) by the   RHS   judging   panel   ,   Wilbert's   purple potting bench delighted many of the   Chelsea   visitors in attandance. Complete with heather clad roof, potting bench,   pipe   and   'Robert's'   radio,   the   Nutscene   Direct   stand   certainly   enhanced   all   of   Nutscene' unique   garden   giftware   and   gardening   sundries.
